⚠ Important information before running the app ⚠
LIG-Aikuma uses Microphone to record speech, Phone (typically Bluetooth, Internet or Wi-Fi) to share recorded files, Location to point the position of the recording session, and Storage to select elicitation files (image/text file/video) and store recordings.
These four components must be enabled in order to LIG-Aikuma work as intended.
In Android version below 6, android permission requests are granted by users during Lig-Aikuma installation but starting from Android 6, permissions have to be enabled by the user itself after the installation process.
Please, check the Android version of your smartphone. Go to Settings > About phone > Android version.
Version anterior to Android 6.0: authorizations have to be accepted during the installation process. A pop-up is automatically displayed during the installation process. You just have to agree.
Since Android 6.0: authorizations have to be enable after the installation process. To do that, follow these lines: Settings > App > Lig-Aikuma > Permissions and turn on the listed tools.
Getting started with LIG-Aikuma app.
LIG-Aikuma offers 6 modes :
- Recording
- Respeaking
- Translating
- Elicitation
- Check
- Share
The first four offer different ways to record speech.
Elicitation proposes 3 submodes: Text, Image and Video.
The Check mode allows to quickly valid text as ASR transcriptions or word variants.
The Share mode gives the opportunity to send recordings between two devices (by Bluetooth, Mail, NFC… if available)
Please, note that the app does not require any particular speech recording approach. The linguist is free to lead his record session as he wants. For the Elicitation mode specifically, linguist can put any text or image or video.
Important note about the text file to import to LIG-Aikuma in Elicitation By Text mode:
The text file must NOT be written with a software as Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer.
It must be created with a text editor like Gedit (freely available for Linux/Windows/MacOS platforms).
LIG-Aikuma is just a tool. We do not provide any media, except samples (in examples/ directory).
To put/pull files on/from your Android smartphone, follow this explication: How to move data between your phone and computer.
Once files have been moved on the smartphone, you can access it through the different modes of the app.
For example, let’s say you want to do a recording session by elicitation using text.
- Create your text file.
- Put your text file on the desired location.
- Open LIG-Aikuma, push the Elicitation button, then Elicitation by Text.
- Now you are in the file browser. Select the folder where you put your text file on step 2 until you get the file. Select the file.
- Fill in the metadata form about the speaker (Language and Name are mandatory). Push Ok.
- Record.
In addition to the provided recording modes, important features have been implemented in the application to be quick and easy to use:
- Saving and loading metadata of the latest recording
- Saving and loading user profiles
- Saving and loading the current session
- Watching the progression during the session
- Allowing geolocalisation to memorize where recordings have been collected during the fieldwork
- Audio waveform visualization on Respeaking and Translating modes
- Get the information of the alignement of segments between original and respeaking/translating files to built parallel speech corpus
